OUR WEEKEND RECIPE # 5




















Hello my friends,
today I'm showing you an adaption of one of my favourite recipes of all time. I'm sure most of you know bulgogi, as it is one of the top korean dishes. I was born in Seoul and lived there for my first 3 1/2 years. What brings me back to this time in Korea immediately are the scents of korean meals. Whereas kimchi (fermented chinese cabbage) has a familiar but somehow disturbing odeur, bulgogi just smells like home to me. Usually bulgogi is made of thinly sliced beef, but I decided to go for minced beef as you can get it at every supermarket. 
Ingredients (serves 4):
  • 450g minced beef (1 pound)
  • 320g short grain rice (about 3 cups)
  • 2 middle sized carrots
  • 2 sticks green onions
  • 1/2 pear
  • 5 tbsps soy sauce
  • 3 tbsps sesame oil
  • 1 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 2 tbsps sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp rice wine (or vinegar)
  • 1 tsp honey
  • a dash of black pepper
Thinly slice carrots, green onions and pear. For the marinade, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, garlic, sesame seeds, rice wine, honey and black pepper.






































Put beef, carrots, green onions and pear in a bowl, add the marinade and mix everything together thouroughly. Let the beef marinate for at least two hours! When your rice is ready, heat up a pan and roast the beef for about 6-7 minutes and serve immediately. Oh so delicious!




















Tip: Every single meal in Korea is accompanied by kimchi, or other tasty side dishes. I prefer not to make kimchi at home (again, disturbing odeur!!) but it is simply a must have. If there is no korean supermarket in your neighborhood, you'll surely find something in other asian stores.
